The Beginning
Why we exist.
The Sapphire Scroll was founded in Mumbai in 2021 by two lifelong writers who had grown tired of choosing between beautiful notebooks that bled ink and practical ones that inspired nothing. The search for the perfect journal — one that was both exquisite and functional — ended not in a store, but in a decision to build one.
What began as a small-batch experiment with local artisans evolved quickly into a full collection of premium writing instruments, journals, and stationery. Each piece is developed with obsessive attention to detail: the weight of the paper, the texture of the cover, the way the spine breathes open flat without breaking.
Today, The Sapphire Scroll ships across India and to stationery lovers worldwide who believe that the tools of thought are as important as the thoughts themselves.

How We Make It
Craft before commerce.
Every journal begins at the source. Our paper is selected from two heritage mills — one in Rajasthan, one in Kerala — both of which have been producing cotton-rag sheets for over four decades. We specify grammage, texture, and acid-free treatment at the mill level, before a single sheet is cut.
Binding is done entirely by hand using a Japanese stab-stitch technique adapted by our lead bookbinder, who trained in Kyoto. Leather covers are sourced from a single certified tannery in Tamil Nadu that uses vegetable-tanning methods requiring no heavy metals. Every finished journal passes a twelve-point quality inspection before it is wrapped and dispatched.
